Theatre After Pozzo (TAP) is named after Pozzo who appears in Samuel Beckett’s masterpiece Waiting For Godot as a symbolic figure of the authority. His presence brings in chaos to the somehow harmonious waiting of Estragon and Vladimir. With the attempt to envisage the aftermath of the chaos brought to the current society, TAP aims to inspire the discourses on our concern.
Formed by a group of non-traditional young theatre artists with various theatre-related backgrounds, TAP is dedicated to create inspiring, thought-provoking original productions beyond entertainment, addressed upon controversial social issues as well as the complexity and ambiguity of human nature. Originally from non-Western cultures yet enormously influenced by western culture, TAP founders tend to position themselves in limbo who are not ‘here’ nor ‘there.’ For them, the significance of standing in between is to constantly experience chaos, conflict, contradiction and ambiguity originated from the clash of different value systems. The theatre, thus, is a potential, liminal space to anticipate, frustrate, terminate, and resurrect.
